The Chaplain of Chapel of His Resurrection, Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Professor Ven Sam Ike has described drama as a message that touches the five organs of the body. He Made this description at the ongoing National Conference of the All Nigeria Conference of Evangelical Drama Ministers, ANCEDRAM, in Enugu while speaking on the topic ‘Wisdom For Quality Stewardship’.

Prof. Sam refers to the days when people saw Christian drama as a production for entertainment.

Citing an example from Matthew 24:45-51, he presented the story of a servant whose Master would find faithfully doing the work.

He explained that drama helps to take the gospel to far away places, where even the drama evangelist might not be able to travel to, and people would be blessed.

He added that an unfaithful servant is one that drifts away to Hollywood or Nollywood in search of fame or quest for money. Such servants are already out of context, have become self centered, and have no futuristic mindset. When the Master returns suddenly, such servants would be punished along with hypocrites.

Prof. Sam noted that in ‘visibility ministry’ (music and drama) people make a mess of their faith for popularity and also for fame.

He explained that everyone who is placed in the drama ministry by God would be helped by God’s grace to be bold and empowered. Shyness would be replaced by boldness and spiritual empowerment.

Citing a possibility, he said: “A pastor may affect close to 2 million (persons). Teachers may affect close to 5 million. Celebrities may affect close to 20 million (Drama Minister, Music Minister).

He pointed out that this shows how important the ministry is, and how severe the punishment of one who is not aligned to his or her calling in the drama ministry.

He took his explanation forward by stating the five sense organs as
Ears, Eyes, skin, tongue and nose, and described how drama touches almost all the sense organs.

According to him – “where responsibilities abound, more grace abounds.” Drama ministry takes a managerial or leadership position in the kingdom because it carries INFLUENCE, which is the keyword in leadership. He further encouraged drama ministers to be servant-like leaders.

Prof. Sam added that every born again Christian is liable to be referred to as God’s servant.

He also made mention of Jesus as a servant, especially as the latter showed himself as servant twice in the Scripture.
1. He left His glory in heaven and came down to the world in human flesh

2. He washed the disciples’ feet – the dirtiest part of the body. John 13

The professor also charged participants to be humble, as humility is a form all ministers should take. Each script should draw soul to Christ.

The wisdom for quality stewardship is faithfulness. Therefore, drama ministers should not be entangled by other affairs that seem to prosper others.

He rounded off his message by saying that the one important thing that should be noted is that the day of reward is fast approaching.
