“Only those who God protect escape from evil,” this scriptural truth played out in the life of veteran gospel filmmaker, Evangelist Kolade Segun-Okeowo who recounts how he died and came back alive 17 years ago.

This was contained in a statement sent to Gospel Film News on Friday.

According to him, It was in the first week of October 2005 to be precise when himself and his colleagues attended a Film Festival in Abuja and had a good time learning a lot of new things after which they set out in the morning of the fateful day traveling back from Abuja to Ibadan.

“We were just a few moments from a village called Abaji when the accident occurred. Sincerely I do not remember the details of how it happened, I can only recall that myself and my brother and friend, Evang. Isaac Femi-Akintunde were making some jokes concerning our big brother and senior in the ministry, Evangelist Israel Ore Adewole about sharing of bread and sardine when suddenly we saw it coming. Our car had an head-on collision with a trailer.

“That was all I could remember. I lost memory from that point. By the time I woke up, I was on the cold floor of a room. I opened my eyes, sat up and I saw beside me the corpse of our brother Olu James, the driver of our car. He had already been stuffed with cotton wool in his nose, mouth and ears.

“I was stiff scared when I saw that. I looked around me and behold, I was the only one lying on the cold floor beside the corpse of Bro. Olu James.

“Suddenly, the door opened and I saw a nurse coming with a tray of cotton wool. It never occurred to me what was happening at that moment. It was later I realized that the nurse was coming with a tray of cotton wool to prepare me for the morgue just as she has done to Olu James.

“The moment she came in with the tray of cotton wool and saw me seated, fear was written all over her. She quickly closed the door back and run away. Some moments later, two gentlemen came in with the nurse and asked me questions. They wanted to know if I was okay and I told them I was okay. They then explained to me what had happened to our driver, Olu.

“They thereafter escorted me out of the room and returned me to a private ward where my two other brothers, Evangelists Israel Ore Adewole and Femi Isaac-Akintunde were kept with a warning that I should not tell them what had happened. Of course I didn’t tell them what transpired and what I had seen.

“Much later in the day, our father-in-the Lord, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye and his wife, Evangelist Gloria Bamiloyecame from Ibadan to meet us in the hospital and moved us to a bigger hospital in the city of Abuja where he officially broke the news concerning the death of the driver to us,” he narrated to Gospel Film News.

Today, 17 years after that incident, he can only return all the glory to God for saving his life and sparing him from the jaws of death through that accident.

The veteran recalled vividly how he had been kept on the cold floor of the room with Olu James who couldn’t make it after that accident.

He said he also remembered how he had seen the corpse of beloved brother, Olu James stuffed with cotton wool in his nostrils, ears and mouth, how the nurse came with another bowl of cotton wool apparently to prepare him for the morgue, how she ran away and brought in other people to take him out of there to the room where my Isaac Femi-Akintunde and Israel Ore Adewole were kept.

“I can only thank God who spared me. I am a testimony. Praise the Lord,” he concluded.
