The Reconciliation (Part 47)

Mr Itodo asked the nurse to read again,

“Dear Theresa, I agree I made mistakes, forgive me and let me drink from your fountain of love again. God has already fought for you. I love you over and over again. Please love me again”

As the nurse finished, Mr Itodo turned sideways and with pleading eyes said, “Please, please, Theresa”

As the nurse excused himself, Theresa moved near him and sat at the edge of the bed. She placed her right hand on his chest and said,

“I have forgiven you and we can be together again”

Mr Itodo smiled widely and Theresa playfully ran her fingers on his face. They must have been engrossed with each other that they never knew when the door opened and Agnes with James entered.

They wanted to leave immediately so that the duo can enjoy their moments but the car key mistakenly dropped from Agnes’s hand. Theresa looked back at the sound of the car key and saw that Agnes and James were trying to steal away.

She rose up and called them.

“We are done, you can stay” Theresa said.

Agnes coughed twice and smilingly looked at her mother.

“We will soon be on our way ma, we just want to be sure you are okay. We also brought you some fruits”.

James stood as if to leave, Mr Itodo beckoned on him.

” Thank you, thank you” he said to James.

“Welcome always sir, I hope you are getting better”

Mr Itodo nodded.

The Reconciliation (Part 48)

Agnes came out of the room overjoyed at her parents’ reconciliation, she called her siblings and gave them the gist.

They all laughed over the phone, Agnes turned to James and said,

“It seems I need to tap into your gift of faith”

“Faith? Don’t mind me I just take God by His words now”

“But sometimes, it seems He is faraway”

“Well, we will keep believing until He honors our faith”

“That’s true and thank you for your maturity and care. You are the best”

“Hmmm”

“Am serious, I’m indeed grateful and I am truthful about this. Meanwhile my siblings sent their greetings, Victoria actually screamed your name when I told her”

“That girl, she is a comedian, she is just too dramatic”

“Honestly”

“I think we need to see a movie with them soon”

“That will be when dad is discharged”

“Not necessarily, let’s enjoy ourselves while your parents have their private moments at the hospital now. There is a movie’s private screening that I have been invited to, we could go to that, I can get more invite “

Mr Itodo was discharged from the hospital five days later and they decided he stayed in Lagos until he fully recovers.

James wanted to look for a temporary accommodation for him but he declined.

“Son, you have done so much for me, don’t let me be further indebted to you”

“It’s not an issue sir”

Mr Itodo cleared his throat afterwards.

“I will stay with Agnes for now but know that I am deeply grateful for all your care. I have really learnt from all of you, God bless you real good”.

During sunday service the following morning, when the Pastor made the altar call for salvation, Mr Itodo left his seat and to his wife’s surprise went to give his life to Jesus.

The Reconciliation (Part 49)

After lunch on Sunday, Mr Itodo and Theresa took a walk to the hill around Agnes’s house. They saw a bench and so sat, Mr Itodo held Theresa’s hand, gazed into the sky before asking the question that had been bothering him.

“Please can you relocate to Kaduna?”

“Kaduna?

” Yes”

“Really, we are not sure of your own safety and you want me to join you there”

“It’s safe”

“Really, with the gunshot?”

“It was a case of mistaken identity, that was according to police investigation”

“And you believe that”

“Yes, according to my friend, those guys have been arrested and they confessed that I wasn’t their target, I just bear a resemblance to their target”.

” What about Christy?”.

“Her aunt said she has relocated to Jos, she took her son along”

“I need to think about this please, I need time, I know I will have to join you eventually but we need to be sure of safety”

“How much time?”

“I will give you answer when I am ready please”.

Mr Itodo looked downcast.

Agnes woke up at night to use the bathroom but noticed the living room light was on. She was about putting off the light when she noticed her dad sitted on the couch.

“Dad, you are still awake”

“Yes”

“Why? Is the room not comfortable for you? I left my room for you, my flat mate accepted I stay with her for now”

“Daughter, I am fine but can you plead with your mum to join me in Kaduna?”

“She discussed this with me last evening, she just has her fears, she doesn’t want Aunty Christy’s trouble”.

“Christy has gone forever, no trouble again. Look daughter, you people have taught me faith, let’s demonstrate it. Ok, I will change my accommodation but I can’t dump my businesses and just leave Kaduna like that”.

Agnes sighed.

“Daughter, please encourage her”

“Ok dad, safety is of the Lord, we will hope in His mercy”.

” Dad, can you pray about this?”

“I will, thanks.

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

The Reconciliation (Part 50)

The early showers of the morning of Agnes and James’s registry wedding sent a rapturous message to her as she alighted from the car to join her husband-to-be at the registry’s waiting room.

They had both decided to have a quiet white wedding the week following their engagement ceremony and the registry wedding. James wanted the white wedding to be conducted in South Africa by his friend and afterwards they would travel to one of the Caribbean Islands for their honeymoon.

Kunle was James’s bestman when he wedded Kate some years ago but he is now a Pentecostal pastor in South Africa .The twins offered to be bridemaids while Agnes’s younger sister would be the Chief bridesmaid.

As Mr Itodo walked into the venue of the engagement ceremony and saw the calibre of people sittted, he held his wife and tears stung his eyes.

He turned to Theresa and said,

“This is God’s revenge on your behalf my darling, He surely surpassed my expectations”

Theresa with a smile said, “This is beyond my widest imaginations but we give glory to Him”.

As Agnes knelt before her parents for blessing, all the unshed tears in Mr Itodo’s eyes came down like a flood of rain, he tried to keep them back but it was too late. He secretly wished he could turn back the hands of time and enjoy precious moments with his first daughter before giving her hand out in marriage.

Congratulatory messages flooded both the electronic and print media days after and the pictures of both couple trended on social media, while that was been modest, it actually broke the internet.

Some overzealous journalists tried to dig deeper and wanted to know how they met, James’s didn’t allow Agnes to answer any of their questions, he shielded her from the pressmen but his own response was ” we met in the sanctuary and she is a precious gift from God to me and I am very pleased to be with her”

Many wondered why James would go ahead and marry “a low life” despite all the sophisticated and urbane ladies trolling around him just to have a relationship with him.

The Reconciliation (Part 51)

As the plane landed at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, Mr Itodo became dramatic and also sang different praise songs to God. When he got to his hotel room, he looked
at his wife and said,

“God has indeed shown me great mercy. So I, can really be alive to witness my own daughter’s wedding in another country?”

Theresa smiled widely.

He continued as he held his wife’s hand, “Thank you God and thank you my dear wife for everything you have done, you are indeed a virtuous woman”.

The church wedding ceremony had twelve people in attendance and afterwards they had lunch in a five-star hotel together.

Two days later, the couple travelled to a Carribean Island after their guests had returned to their various destinations. They planned their honeymoon to be a seven day Caribbean cruise.

The heavy Caribbean air was warm and fragrant with the scent of the sea while a yellow mashed Caribbean sweet potato, served with jerk chicken welcomed their taste buds for more sumptuous meals on the Island.

The rest of the first day of their arrival on the ship was spent sleeping but they utilized most part of the following day in exploring the many things and the beautiful sights on the lsland. They however attended the pizza party organised for all guests that evening where they met people of different nationalities and age groups. That night too, the ship set sail for another Island.

The following morning, Agnes woke up and didn’t find James besides her, she searched for him all over their room which was attractively designed in Caribbean teakwood and still couldn’t find him. She became troubled but later engaged herself in watching beautiful sights on the Island, all she remembered was that she slept off some minutes after they prayed at night while he was on a Skype meeting with a friend.

Some minutes later, she got up and took the programme of events for the day which was delivered to their room the previous evening. Agnes became crushed when she discovered the first program was the buffet breakfast which will start in ten minutes, she wondered where James actually left for.

That was her first time in the Caribbean and her first cruise experience, so she was at loss on what to do, the thought of rapture flashed her mind, was she left behind, she wondered? She later noticed the card key wasn’t on the table, so she realised he must have left with the key, she thought.
