Light that drives people away by Mike Bamiloye

Matthew 5:14-16 KJV
[14] Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
[15] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
[16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

In those days when we used to have live drama ministrations outside in the open, it was called Drama Crusades. At times we had them in the open square of a town, and at times, we usually hold them by the side of a big road. People would stand all around, while some would sit on any available items like woods, blocks, etc and on parked motorcycles and on verandas of surrounding houses. the whole place will be dark or faintly lit, while only the stage would be well lit for the drama ministration.

The light on the stage would attract all passers by and people standing or walking afar would see the stage light and walked closer to where the drama is holding. Another thing that was usually attracted to the stage light are the INSECTS…Flying and crawling insects, disturbing us on stage as we acted our roles. That is the fact: LIGHT ATTRACTS TO ITSELF.

When a man is lost in the jungle in the middle of the night, he would wants to move towards the direction of burning light. People want to go towards direction of lights away from where there is darkness. Whoever holds the touch light in a large dark hall full of people, would always attracts the attention of the rest people who were living darkness.

LIGHT ATTRACTS TO ITSELF.
PEOPLE LEAVES DARKNESS AND WANTS TO WALK TOWARDS DIRECTION OF LIGHTS.
EVERY NORMAL PERSON LOVES LIGHTS AND HATES DARKNESS.

So, when Jesus said to us in Matthew 5:14 “Ye are the light of the world.” And that every light is like a “…. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” He mean that as He -the Light , lives inside of us, we shall radiate His glory and virtues wherever we find ourselves.

Did you notice from the Bible that, when Jesus was on earth physically, people were always thronging around Him. People loved Him, they loved His personality. They wanted to be around Him all the time. Crowd of people loved to walk with Him and travel with Him as He went preaching from villages to towns. People were always attracted to His person. BECAUSE LIGHT ATTRACTS PEOPLE TO ITSELF.

I remember I read in Mark Chapter 4, after He had dispersed the people and went across the sea to the coast of the Gadarenes to go and heal the demoniac person harboring more than 6,000 demons. After healing him and the city people sent Him away from their city. He entered he boat and came back to where He had left, Alas! A lot of people He had dispersed previously were still waiting for Him at the sea-side. They loved Him. It was not all the time He was giving them bread and fishes. But they still followed HIm around. BECAUSE HE WAS AND STILL IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

He loved the people. He would sit in a Publican’s house like Zacheus. He would sit and eat in the house of Pharisee. He would sit and a harlot would pour oil on his feet and head and wipe His feet with her hair and would have compassion on the woman and would not drive her away from Him. BECAUSE HE WAS AND STILL IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

But how come that many of us that are called light of the world are not living like Jesus Christ, the Big Light? How come some christians are too Holy to have compassion on the “Sinners”. Many christians do not mingle with others in heir offices and homes, they separate themselves from others; they keep to themselves in their offices and houses. They never play, interact, discuss with others, so that they would not be corrupted or polluted.

I am NEVER saying that you would participate in their dirty jokes, because they too are never expecting you to participate in their casual immoral discussions. They know what to expect from a True Godly Christian.

BUT, HOW COME SOME CHRISTIANS ARE MORE HOLIER THAN JESUS, in their characters? They would not do what Jesus Himself did? They would not mingle with the unbelievers Jesus Himself mingled, talked and interacted with.

Some christians are not the light of the world at all. They are darkness. People never wanted to have anything to do with them, because their lives is not attractive at all. They have no comforting words for the distressed, they have no word of hope for the hopeless. They come to the office or work in the morning and do not carry the grace they could infect their fellow with. They are unprofitably spiritual and Spiritually Unprofitable  to their colleagues and people around them. THEY ARE NO LIGHT AT ALL, BUT DARKNESS.
THEY ARE DARKNESS….THAT IS NOT THE LIGHT OF JESUS.

Some Christians in offices and schools go alone, sit alone, keep to themselves, never talk to others because they are “Holy”. And all others unbelievers and others keep away from them, because they are not friendly at all. Not accommodating. No Long-suffering. THEY ARE SIMPLY NOT THE LIGHT JESUS SAID WE ARE.

LIGHT DOES NOT MINGLE WITH DARKNESS.
BUT PEOPLE IN THE DARK ALWAYS WANT TO COME TO THE LIGHT.
WHEN PEOPLE ARE RUNNING AWAY FROM YOU,…THEY DON’T WANT TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU….THEY ARE TRYING TO AVOID YOU…
THEN, YOU ARE DARKNESS AND NOT LIGHT.
Even the Mad Man of Gardarah, when he saw Jesus Christ, ran to him and worship.

THE JESUS I KNOW IS THE LIGHT OF WORLD THAT PEOPLE ALWAYS WANT TO MOVE CLOSER TO.
You don’t laugh. You don’t smile. Your face is not sweet to behold…And you want people to be attracted to the Jesus you have. NO.
THEY WILL RUN AWAY FROM YOU, AND WALK AWAY FROM YOU, BECAUSE YOU DO NOT HAVE THE LIGHT OF JESUS THAT IS ATTRACTIVE.

I am not saying that, occasionally there may not situations of persecutions against children of God, but Jesus also was Persecuted, but He was loved also, because He was and still is the Light of the World.

WHEN PEOPLE RUN AWAY FROM YOU AND NEVER WANTED TO BE ATTRACTED TO YOU, THEN, YOU ARE NOT THE LIGHT THAT ATTRACTS PEOPLE LIKE JESUS, YOU CARRY A DIFFERENT SPIRIT.
