Many people may not be familiar with the name “Mama Oniru” but of course thousands of people knows the face in the above picture and the role she played in her daughter’s choice of partner in marriage. “Mama Oniru” is the name of Gloria Bamiloye’s mother. This role in “The Train” movie was played by Mrs. Adewole Olufunmilola Victory who saw virtues in Mike Bamiloye even when he has “no job.” In this exclusive Interview with Gospel Film News, Mrs. Olufunmilola adviced mothers and Single ladies on what to do in chosing life partner, her lesson from the movie amongst others. Excerpt:

Can we meet you ma?

My name is Mrs. Adewole Olufunmilola Victory. I am a native of Ilesha, Osun State, I’m a business woman. I’m also a Drama Minister. I belong to Holy Ghost Drama Ministry and I have my own personal ministry; song ministry.

You played a vital role in “The Train” movie, what lesson did you deduce from the role?

Ah! A lot of lessons, I even have a song I want to sing if time permits me to let other people know that whenever anybody has a vision or calling he/she must stand by it. You may be having different kinds of depression, you shouldn’t bother, stand firm on your feet because nobody want to associate with a looser but a winner. If you achieve many things people will become your friend but if you are a loser no one will recognize you, so that’s the great lesson I learnt in that movie.

Comparing mothers of those days to mothers of nowadays, do you think a mother will allow her daughter to marry a man without a specific job?

That one is a nature. Let me say this in Yoruba, wo ni t’omode ba n gegi n’igbo agba maa mo ibi to ma wo si (When a child is cutting tree in the forest, an elder knows where it will land). Immediately the mother saw the man that wants to marry her daughter there must have been something that connected her with that man which is beyond human knowledge. We are just looking at physical realm but God has finished the work in the spiritual realm, which was why the woman has interest in the man immediately he saw him. Mothers today may not allow their daughter marry such man and at the same time the mother may if the mother is spirit filled. She may and she may not due to what is happening around us now.

When you received the script of the movie and you are informed about the role you are going to play, what came to your mind?

I didn’t even receive the script until I got to the location, I was only informed ahead that I was going to play the role and was somehow inspired, I’m happy to partake in the movie project.

If you have the opportunity of going back to location to shoot the movie, what would you do better?

I will perform excellently even more than that. I know God will help me to do more.

Have you met with Mike Bamiloye?
No, but I’ve heard and read about him.

Having heard and read about him, what can you say about him?

I know him to be a man of vision, anytime I see his movie I always wish to be like him. I pray that God should help me to even do more like him.

Your advice to mothers and single ladies as touching marriage

My only advice is that the mother should pray for their children not to choose wrongly in marriage, and the children too should pray well to know the will of God for their life. Mothers should join their daughters in prayer when it comes to the issue of marriage. That’s just it.

Thank you very much for your time with Gospel Film News

Thank you .

  1. Really, I love that woman’s role. She interpreted it well. I love the way she spoke the Ijesha language too. I think I’ll need her to tutor me. Lolsss….. Ma, you are going places in Jesus name. The good Lord grant your heart desires according to His will in Jesus name.

  2. Mama oniru fell in love with “love”

    Because…Bro Mike was love himself.
He did what most men won’t do.

I love the role she played.
I wish my mum can be like her.
    Love you ma

  3. God bless Mama Oniru in the Train Movie. I am an Ijesha girl myself and the way she spoke the language was so sweet to my hearings (Yeemi Oluru, inyan a dun lerun rin in – my locust bean seller mom, pounded yam will be sweet in your mouth!). The way she counselled her daughter, has no part 2 – I really loved that. And the way she used elderly wisdom to excuse both junior Mike and Gloria to allow space to talk – good stuff. And to crown it, the way she allowed her daughter to marry ‘jobless’ Mike even when the closest person to Mike backed out – really good of her. Gloria Bamiloye’s mom in the physical is a gem! Mama Oniru is a great Minister.
